School Trips

Brilliant venue for educational visits, used by hundreds of teachers to deliver many aspects of the
geology curriculum across all Key Stages through to GNVQ level, we cater for all age groups, special rates
are offered, when pre-booked by telephone
In the heart of the Peak District, we are surrounded by superb local geological features including Mam
Tor, The Great Ridge, Winnats Pass, Cave Dale (once a subterranean cave system!), and Castleton also
boasts Peveril Castle with its ruins of a Norman Keep & St Edmunds Church with a superb Normal Arch
Our guides conduct the tours (up to 45 per tour), a minimum ratio of one adult to ten students
(excluding guide) would be required. Each tour takes around 50 minutes to 1 hour. Students with special
needs or disabilities requiring additional assistants, these will be admitted at no extra charge. Please
bear in mind that there are 245 steps down into the cavern (and you have to return the same way!)
when organising any physically disabled students, therefore no wheelchair access.
At all times guides will expect group leaders and students are to adhere to instructions. The cavern
floors can be wet due to the natural underground environment, therefore suitable footwear is
recommended. For the general safety do not allow anyone in your group to run around, climb on walls
or railings or discard litter.
There is a small area outside the cavern shop with a couple of picnic benches
